3 Reasons Your Accounting Software Should be Cloud-Based

1. You can access your information from anywhere, even your phone.

Sometimes change can be difficult. One topic that most business owners ask us is about the cloud and how it can benefit their business’s accounting. Jennifer Devine, CEO of Devine Consulting, broke down three major benefits to moving your accounting software to the cloud!

Your accounting software should work with you, not against you. “Having your accounting software on the cloud means you can access the information anywhere,” Devine explained. “For example, with QuickBooks Online, you can log in from any device and have the most up-to-date information about your books. When you use QuickBooks Desktop, all of the information is available, but only on one computer or hard drive, which is an inconvenience to you and your staff.” Having information readily available on any device is a huge benefit when moving to the cloud.

2. Your information is secure; no need to back up or worry about a server.

“Moving to the cloud also means you do not have to rely on an IT department or a server to hold all of your accounting information,” Devine said. “When you transfer to a cloud-based software, you have the peace of mind knowing that your information is stored without you having to mess with updating servers or backing up your information daily.” What if something happened to your server, was it damaged in flood or stolen? How would you get all that precious accounting information back? With cloud-based software, that worry is a thing of the past. You know that your information is stored offsite and so you can rest easy.

3. You always have the most up-to-date information.

When you use a desktop or server-based software, it is hard to ensure everyone is looking at the most up-to-date information. There is typically only one person who has access to the system, meaning that not everyone can see the correct information daily. This can cause issues when you are budgeting or forecasting, as you will always need to go back to that one computer to get a good picture of your financial well-being. “By having everything on one desktop or server, it can make it difficult to ensure you have the most up-to-date information,” Devine explained, “but by moving to the cloud, you know that you are always looking at the most accurate picture of your finances.”

Today, there are a variety of cloud-based accounting programs. There is Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online, Business Central, and more! Is your accounting software in need of an update? At Devine Consulting, that is what we do. We are here to help you choose the right software and work with you through the installation process.
